Who is Salty Paws Marine & RV?

Frequently we are asked: where did you come up with the name? Well, if you look at the photo you will see the CEOs (that's Canine Executive Officers) in Key West with us: Arabi and Lola.  They are two very spoiled boxers who LOVE to camp, boat, swim and retrieve sticks, balls, or whatever is thrown.  We bought a little Boston Whaler and named it "Salty Paws" for them. Unfortunately, we have to sell the boat because when we slow to idle speed, they think it is their cue to jump off to swim.

Salty Paws Marine & RV is the brain child of Alan Schmitz.  After returning to Louisville in 2006 from working in the marine industry in Fort Lauderdale and Louisville for over 20 years, friends started calling him to source parts and accessories for their boats and RVs.  Soon our garage was full!  In October of 2008, we opened a booth in the Bluegrass Peddlers Mall and within 4 months, we were in 2 more Peddlers Malls.   After about 6 months, we realized that we needed our own store. In August 2009, Salty Paws Marine & RV was born and located at 6104 Bardstown Road (in the Fern Creek Community Center)!  Alan’s experience boating and working in the marine industry is a benefit to our customers.  From his 20+ years in the field, Alan has extensive knowledge of marine and RV items – even the hard to find items!  I challenge people to “Ask Alan”!

Salty Paws Marine & RV Cares! … We donate to the The American Cancer Society by selling shirts (2011 – 2012 “Treasure Your Chest” T-Shirts) to raise money to fight cancer and we walk in The Relay for Life in Bullitt County (http://relayforlife.org/bullitt) and Making Strides for Breast Cancer.  We also support Hand in Hand Ministries in Buechel, KY (http://myhandinhand.org) who builds and repairs homes for folks in Eastern Kentucky, Belize and Nicaragua.  We have been so blessed that we feel it is important to give back to our community.  We hope you will join us!

Alan, Lola, Arabi and I are avid boaters and campers and live for the weekend.  We are lucky that we get to work in this industry about which we are passionate.  We can empathize with our customers as we too have experienced many of their camping & boating joys and trials.  We appreciate the business many have sent our way and look forward to helping you and many others in the years to come.
